Little did we know when I did a shoot with the Broadhead family in October that Amber had a little life growing inside of her!
I couldn't think of a better shoot to do right here at the holidays. Congratulations Brandon, Amber and Allie Grace and I can't wait to meet Baby Broadhead!
When Tressa reached out to me, she warned me that she wasn't sure how her 5-year-old and 1-year-old would do and that she just wanted a couple of decent photos of them as a family.
With kids that age, you never know how they're going to react and I have nothing but respect for the parents who take on the challenge of having family photos made at that age.
We scheduled around sweet Joseph's nap time for optimal cooperation and met in Alabaster on an unseasonably warm Sunday morning.
These kids were a blast. Did they do great with sitting down to take traditional photos? No, but most kids don't at this age. Instead, we got to run and play with them for an hour and really got the chance to see their personalities shine through.
Often times, my favorite photos are the ones I capture while playing with kids. They may not be super "portrait-y" but they truly show who the child is, and isn't that what pictures are for anyway?
Thank you Tressa and Jeremy for giving us the chance to capture your family!
I'd always thought the "pregnancy glow" was a figure of speech. In fact, most women I know would argue that the only time they felt like they "glowed" was when they were sweating and struggling to move around during their pregnancy.
However, that was until I saw Monica yesterday. Monica is almost nine -- yes, you read that right, NINE -- months pregnant and is just as cute as a button. She is literally glowing. She and Justin were such a sweet couple to shoot and I am so excited to meet Mr. Kayson Grey in January!
Kayla and I go wayyyy back -- we graduated from the same high school and spent many afternoons together in the gymnasium running and serving balls on the varsity volleyball team. Believe it or not, Kayla and Blake have been together since way back then, so I was thrilled a few months ago when I saw that they had finally gotten engaged on Facebook. Since high school, Kayla's been busy knocking out a nursing degree. Blake proposed on the day of her graduation with a game where she had to unlock letters -- letters that went on to spell out "Will you marry me Kayla?"
Just from that story alone and the fact that they've been together for about a million years, it's easy to see that Kayla and Blake are absolutely perfect together. I was so excited when she contacted me to do their engagement photos. We so enjoyed ourselves playing around in the stables at the Stables of Alabama in Bessemer.
Kayla and Blake are planning on tying the knot in early 2017.
Have I mentioned lately what an incredible blessing it is to do something I love all the time? I'm sure I have, but just in case you forgot, I love my job and thank God every day for it.
One of my latest exploits for my full time big girl job was shooting with a new donut pop-up shop here in Birmingham called We Have Doughnuts. The company was born out of the mutual love four friends shared for donuts and it has been growing ever since. Once simply a delivery service, We Have Doughnuts now offers a donut cart several days a week, delivery, custom orders and they are one of several tenants already signed up for a brick and mortar store in Avondale's Box Row next year.
So back to me loving my job. Not only do I get to express myself creatively all the time, which is a necessary release for someone like me, but I get to take pictures of (and sample!) donuts and call it work. Hallelujah. God is good, y'all.
